METHODOLGY
Introduction
This section aimed at describing the principle, rules, procedures and statistical method used in this study. However, the methodology for this study has been designed under the following headings.
Research Design
The research was developed using descriptive survey design. A descriptive survey was selected because it provided an accurate portrayal or account of the characteristics, for example behaviour, opinions, abilities, beliefs, and knowledge of a particular individual (Burn & Rove, 1993) cited in Omar (2015)
Population of the Study
The population of this study comprises of parents, teachers and pupils of 20 randomly selected public and private elementary schools in Ilorin West Local Government Area.
Sample and Sampling Techniques
The sample size of research work is 100 respondents from the population due to the time constraints and the statistical technique used in analysing the data obtain. The sampling method used is the simple random sampling so as to ensure random selection of the subject involved and thus avoid bias in selection.
Research Instrument
The principal instrument of data collection used in the course of this study is questionnaire which was designed as a tool to elicit response from the respondent. The instrument will be in line with the likert type scale with options ranging from very large extent to not at all. Another major characteristic of this instrument is that, there are two sections: Section A and B. The item in section A are meant to gather personal data of the respondents while section B contains questions probing into the effects of level of literacy of parents and pupils academic performance.
Validity and Reliability of the Instrument
When formulating a detailed tool, reliability and validity are two of the most important characteristics to be considered (Kothari, 2008) cited in Omar (2015).
