SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Introduction
This chapter which is the final chapter contains the summary, conclusions and recommendations for the various institutions of concern and manufacturing companies in general.
Summary of Findings
This study was carried out to determine the effects of literacy of parents and pupils academic performance. The local economic conditions as the educational sectors grows, internal factors such as level of parental literacy, students’ attitude towards education contribute to the poor performance of pupils.
This research work ascertained the effects of literacy of parents and pupils academic performance. In order to achieve this, two specific hypotheses formulated were subjected to different tests so as to ascertain the effects of literacy of parents and pupils academic performance. Several relevant literatures were however reviewed with regards to the conceptual framework, theoretical framework and empirical evidence were gathered on the subject matter.
The data collected were from both primary and secondary source. The primary data which were used as the basis for analysis were analyzed using the t-test and ANOVA. The target population of the study includes parents, teachers and pupils of 20 randomly selected public and private elementary schools in Ilorin West Local Government Area. Questionnaire was used as the method of collecting the data. One hundred (100) copies of questionnaires were by hand administered with the use of a random sampling technique while Eighty-nine (89) were returned.
Thus from the analyses contained in chapter four, the study came across the following findings which include:
i. Most of the respondents agreed that academic performance of primary school pupils in English Language in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State has a significant effect on the basis of parent’s gender.
ii. Most of the respondents also agreed that academic performance of primary school pupils in English Language in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State has a significant effect on the basis of parent’s academic qualification
iii. Finally, most of the respondents likewise supported the fact that academic performance of primary school pupils in English Language in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State has a significant effect on the basis of parent’s marital status
5.3 Conclusion
Based on the analysis of the data, the author was able to conclude that;
i) Parent’s gender has no significant effect on the pupils academic performance
ii) Parent academic qualification has a significant effect on the pupil’s academic performance
iii) Parent’s marital status has a significant effect on the pupil’s academic performance.
Finally, a conclusion can be reach that parent’s literacy have a significant influence on the pupil’s academic performance.
5.4 Limitation of the Study
The main limitations encountered in the study were the time and resources constraints. These two constraints affected the way in which the research was conducted. The time constraint affected the choice of the sample size as well as the quality and quantity of the research work. Another crucial limitation of this study is the reluctance and refusal of some sampled respondents to provide responses to the questionnaires administered to them.
5.5 Recommendations
Based on the findings of this research, the following recommendations were made;
i. Irrespective of gender representation, parents are endeavour to pay closer attention to the pupil’s academic performance;
ii. To enhance the pupil’s academic performance, parents are required to be have some literacy.
iii. Parents are to maintain a good home as being a single parent has proven ineffective on pupil’s academic performance.
