    • This research was designed to access the Profitability and Technical Efficiency Analysis of Rice Production in Esan Central and North East Local Government Areas of Edo State with a specific objective of examine the socio-economic characteristics of the farmers, determine the profitability of rice in the stud area. Data were collected on socio- economic characteristics inputs and output quantities as well as their prices.

      The result of the study revealed that all the estimated coefficients of the production function were positive and statistically significant at 1 and 5 percent levels of probabilities. The study showed that the technical efficiency of individual  swamp  rice  farmers  ranged from 34 to 98 percent with a mean technical efficiency of 86 percent. The study showed that age, family size, extension contact, and membership of cooperatives were the  significant  determinants of technical efficiency among swamp rice farmers. Recommendations were made.
