    • 4.2    Discussion
4.2.1    Stone separation efficiency(SSE): The result of stone separation efficiency of the machine are presented in table 4.2, separation of the stone from rice is higher with the third variety of the rice ( AlhajiA’aba) which produced the highest stone separation efficiency of 77.3% while the first variety (Bokola) produce the lowest separation efficiency of 72.6%. this could be to the fact that the length of the rice is very small which is similarto the length of stone which makes it difficult to be separated from each other.
4.2.2    Rice separation efficiency (RSE):The result of rice separation efficiency of the machine is also presented in table 4.2. the result reveal that the average rice separation efficiency is also higher at the separation of the third variety of the rice (AlhajiA’aba) known to be 81.0% but lower at the second variety (Kodoqiche) known to be  79.0%.This could be due to the fact that the time taken during the evaluation of third variety is higher than the time taken during the evaluation of the second variety.
4.2.3    Impurity Level (IML):From the result in table 4.2, the impurity level after separation of the three varieties of rice is known to b 7.8%, 7.5%, and 6.5% respectively. Impurity level after separation is proportional to the stone separation efficiency.
4.2.4    Tray Loss (TL): From the result, the average tray losses remain almost the same for the three varieties as shown in table 4.2.

    • ABSRACT - [ Total Page(s): 1 ]ABSTRACTA motorized rice de-stoning machine was designed, fabricated and evaluated for performance. The traditional method of rice de-stoning machine characterized with a lot of deficiency in terms local rice containing smaller stones during de-stoning operation. A lot of energy is expended in solving the problem of operation. The rice de-stoning consists of the following part: Hopper, Vibrating Sieve, Machine Frame, Pulley, Eccentric Shaft, and Blower. The factors investigated were feed rate (5 ... Continue reading---

CHAPTER ONE - [ Total Page(s): 2 ]CHAPTER ONE1.                                                      INTRODUCTION1.1    Background of the studyRice (Oryza sativa) is a cereal belonging to the Gramineae, a large monocotyledonous family of some 600 genera and around 10,000 species (Wibberley, 1989). It is valued as the most important staple food for over half of the world population (International Year of Rice, 2004) and ranks third after wheat and maize in production on world ...
