From the Bar Chart drawn on table 4.1A (ii) above, one could see the growth trend from year 2000 to 2009. But of note is the sharp upsurge in years 2001; 2003; 2004; 2006; and 2007 relative to the other years
TABLE 4.1A (iii) Table of Analysis of Listed Equity Securities 2000-2009
The above table shows that there has been a steady increase in the number of listed equity securities in the market. This implies that more companies are getting listing and quotation in the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Thus, resulting in the growth and development of the economy. 76 This, therefore, means increased economic activities in the Nigerian capital market. Using a Bar Chart Analysis of the table above, the result below will be obtained:
y axis = Number of Listed Securities
x axis = Year
10 Equity Security = 1 Unit for y axis
1 Unit = 1 Year for x axisThe number of listed equities has been on a steady growth. However, years 2002 and 2008 witnessed a decline from the number of listed equities in the preceding years. This is as a result of the delisting of some banking institutions that failed as a result of the distress in the system in year 2000 to 2003 as well as merger, acquisition and cancellation of Banking licenses for Banks who could not meet the recapitalization policy or some listed Banks that merged or got acquired by other Banks.
