• An Investigation Into The Challenges Of Carrying Out Biology Practicals Among Senior Secondary School Students

    • This study was carried out to evaluate  the challenges of carrying out biology practicals among senior secondary school students. Specifically, the study aims to examine whether lack of well equipped laboratory have an effect on biology practicals among senior secondary school students, ifind out whether inadequate qualified biology teachers affect the academic performance of senior secondary student in biology practicals, investigate whether labeling and poor comparison of specimens influences students performance in biology practicals and assess whether limited time table hours have an impact on students performance in biology practical. 

      The study employed the survey descriptive research design. A total of 259 responses were validated from the survey. From the responses obtained and analyzed, the findings revealed that  lack of well equipped laboratory have an  effect on biology practicals among senior secondary school students. The study also revealed that  inadequate qualified biology teachers have an  effect on the academic performance of senior secondary student in biology practicals. The study thereby recommend that ithe use of practical activities in teaching biology should be encouraged it enhance students? performance in senior secondary schools. Also,  Practical activities should be adopted by biology teachers when teaching students the basic concepts in biology this enhances retention level. 

      Finally, schools in urban and rural areasshould be exposed to more practical activitiesin Adamawa and other states in Nigeria.
