Innovation Processes And Practices In Construction Industry In Anambra State Of Nigeria

In table 9, the mean score of the respondents’ response on the issue “environmental sustainability is an important innovative issue in the construction industry” is 3.59 which is “positive”. On the issue that “EIAs are always part of the proposal documents for any construction activity in the Construction Industry” the mean score is 1.73 and is “negative”. Also the issue on “EIAs for construction projects are always drafted from real EIA field study,” the mean score is 1.80 which is “negative”. The issue of “construction activities are always guided by EIA activity”, shows that the respondents responses have a mean score of 1.81 which is a “negative” reaction. Also on the issue that construction wastes are effectively managed in the construction industry” has a mean score response of 2.23 and is “negative”.
We can deduce from the above that environmental sustainability which ought to be addressed during the project proposal stage through the EIA process is seriously played down in the industry.

In table 10, the responses from the respondents on the issue “innovative procurement system is an important issue in the construction industry” has a mean score of 3.75 which is “positive”. Also that “the traditional
/old procurement system is mostly practiced in the construction industry” has a “positive” response with a mean score of 3.19. The issue “E-procurement has been really effective in the construction industry’ shows that it is “positive” with a mean score of 2.29. The issue that “E-procurement has been successfully integrated into the construction industry” has a mean score of 1.98 which is “negative”. That “most contractors in the construction industry are fully acquainted with the processes of e-procurement” is “negative” with a mean score of 1.76.
From the above survey, the E-procurement which is a fast track method of procuring construction has not been reasonably integrated in the construction industry with its obvious adverse consequencies on project cost and duration.
