    • CHAPTER FOUR DATA PRESENTATION
      This chapter is designed primarily for the presentation and analysis of the information collected from the field work. And this data will be used for testing the hypothesis presented in the chapter one of this research work.
      4.1.    DESCRIPTIVE ANALYSIS OF BETA GLASS
      Beta Glass Plc (Delta Plant) Ughelli (formerly known as Delta Glass Plc Ughelli) is a member of the Levetis his group. It was incorporated in June 1974 with equity participation by the Nigerian Bottling Company Plc, also a member of the Levetis Group. The government of the defunct Bendel State which shares passed on to Delta State following the states creation in 1991. The shareholder in the company are Nigeria Industrial Development Bank (NIDB), the employees who have shares allocated to them through the employees equity participation scheme as well as Nigerian individual and Industrial investors. The main holding company, the Beta Glass Plc holds 89.83% of the company’s issued stock.
      The construction of the Beta Glass Plc. Ughelli started in 1976, while production commenced in May, 1979. The initial production capacity of the company at its inception was 169 tonnes of glass per day but increase to 280 tons per day following expansion programmes carried out in 1987.
      The production capacity of the company has since increased to 310 tons per day following further expansion programmes, with approximately
      650,000 tones of glass wares producted daily at an average production efficiency of 75%.
      Beta Glass Plc Ughelli sources about 85% of her raw materials requirements locally, including silica sand, limestone gypsums, feldspar and charcoal, while the remaining 15% including sodium carbonate, sodium sulphate, potassiumnitrate, colouring agent (chromate) and discolouring agent (selenium) are imported.
      The company produces flint glass and amber colour of hollow glassware. The range of the company’s products include bottles, jar, jug table wares, lantern and electricitybulbs. Based on these range of products, the company’s markets include breweries, bottling companies, pharmaceutical companies, manufacturing companies, distilleries, food packaging and beverage companies. Companies within Nigeria which are her customers includes Nigeria Bottling Company Plc, Nigeria Breweries Plc, Lever Bothers (Unilever Plc) etc
      The staff strength of Beta Glass on commissioning in May 1979 was 105 senior staff, 290 junior staff and 15 expatriates.
      It is pertinent to emphasize at this juncture that the attainment of organizational goals rest essentially on the extent to which the workers bring in their skill, commitment and loyalty into the production process. Though the common assumption is largely the result of the level and method of motivation. This study therefore, sets out to investigate the impact of the application of motivation on the productivity of workers in Beta Glass Plc. Ughelli.

      The table above shows that 54 respondents representing 72% are male, while 21 respondents representing 28% are female. It is so because of the nature of the job obtain in the company.
