CHAPTER THREE
3.0 METHODOLOGY
Different methods and systematic approaches used for gathering information and data in egbejila area of Ilorin west local government need to be highlighted. This is done by stating questions pertaining to the aim and objectives of the project which serves as guides and reminder to ensure that the information gathered is adequate and relevant to the purpose of the work.
3.1 RECONNAISSANCE SURVEY
Reconnaissance survey of the study area was first carried out in designing the area for sampling and it was based on this design that the questionnaire prepared was grouped into three categories which are the domestic water use, agriculture and the commercial water use(Block industries).
3.2 WATER SITUATION IN EGBEJILA
Ilorin as a whole depends on both Asa and Agba reservoirs for water supply. The Asa reservoir serves as the main source of water supply to the area. Areas such as Egbejila, Lao, Gbagba, Asadam, Cemetery, Olorunsogo, Adeta and Airport scarcely have pipe borne water according to the study conducted. Even the little water supply available is rationed based on scheduling and timing to each street in the area. Due to these inadequacies, the residential buildings, the airport and commercial enterprises such as Hair salon use wells and boreholes for running their daily activities.
3.3 SOURCES OF WATER SUPPLY IN EGBEJILA
The main sources of water supply in the area are: bore holes and wells. The various users of water in the area hardly make use of pipe born water in caring out their daily activities due to the fact that it is not available at all in the community. Due to this reason, wells and bore holes serve as the main constant supply of water to the various users. It was noticed that during the dry season few of the wells in Egbejila and it environs dry up leaving most of them not functioning, while in the rainy season, the wells serves as the most reliable source even to those that have no access to bore holes. The borehole source of water supply has been seen to be the most efficient and reliable source of water supply throughout the year. However the main problem is that only few users have access to it due to the high cost associated with acquiring it.
3.4 DATA COLLECTION INSTRUMENT USED
For the gathering or collection of data for the project work, questionnaire was the main tool used. This questionnaire is essentially a data collection tool, as it is used to measure several variables.
3.5 QUESTIONNAIRE DISTRIBUTED
Based on the information gathered during the reconnaissance survey, the questionnaires were administered as follows:
50 questionnaires were designed and distributed for residential water use.
25 questionnaires were designed and distributed for commercial water use
25 questionnaires were designed and distributed for agriculture water use
3.6 ORAL INTERVIEW AT WATER WORKS
The engineer in-charge (ENGR FASIKUN) said the main source of water in the area is the Asa water, he further explained that the water cannot be evenly distributed due to the population and growth of the area that keeps increasing day by day and he said the only possible solution to get easy accessibility to water for domestic, commercial and agricultural use is to maintain well waters or other sources of water properly and maintain the boreholes provided by the government adequately.

ABSRACT - [ Total Page(s): 1 ]ABSTRACTThis project work examined the water demand and supply in Egbejila area of Ilorin west local government, Kwara State. The three main users of water focused upon in the study area are residential, commercial (block industry, hair salon, food canteen) and agricultural water use. Also, the three main sources of water available to the users i.e. borehole, pipe borne water and well water supplies were investigated to determine the effectiveness of these sources of water in meeting up with the ... CHAPTER TWO - [ Total Page(s): 3 ]The World Health Organization (WHO) carried out a survey in 1975 which revealed that only 22% of the rural population in developing countries had access to safe drinking water. The findings which were published in 1976, led to the declaration of 1981-1990 as the International Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Decade, by the United Nations Water Conference (Dada et al., 1988). According to IMF (2003), growing water scarcities and water pollution in developing countries alike have plunged the w ... Continue reading---
