CHAPTER FIVE
5.1 RECOMMENDATION
The fact still remains that Nigeria cannot do without foreign companies in road construction but the following facts or points will be recommended so that even the local/indigenous contractors will also be involved in road construction.
1. Indigenous companies should emphasis on improving their technical and managerial expertise by sending new breed engineers outside the country with the aid of the government.
2. The local contractor should place their priorities right in the sense that they should always use the mobilization fee given them to start off the contract instead of spending it on frivolous things like marrying a new wife.
3. Two or more small indigenous contractors should come together and form a big consortium so that they would be able to compete favorably with their foreign counterparts.
4. Government should give loans to the tune of 70 percent to 90 percent to indigenous companies involved in road construction of a very low interest rates with repayment periods of 5 to 10 years.
5. Joint ventures partnership with foreign companies should be introduced by government. Claims of joint venture partnership will need to be piously securitized however, in order to determine genuine cases as against fronting. Joint venture would afford Nigerians access to skill acquisition in terms of specialization in certain classes.
5.2 CONCLUSION
Since Nigerian Government have more trust in the foreign company firms because of the quality of jobs. Government should try and make policies that will mandate the foreign firms who apply for jobs to go into joint venture with indigenous companies, this will enable indigenous company access lucrative contracts and over a period of time it would be expected that indigenous company would have acquired sufficient skill and financial muscle to stand on their own.
The Nigerian customs service should ensure proper checking so that these foreign companies do not bring in drugs to the country and their should be proper screening of the airport and seaports by medical doctors to avoid the spread of HIV, and other related diseases to our country.
Construction work by our government should also be given to indigenous engineers so that there would be money in circulation.
