    • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease is a major cause of gynecological morbidity globally.It is a spectrum of infections that arise commonly from vagina and cervix and ascending to the upper genital tract; causing Endometrius,Salpingitis, Oophoritis, Tubo-ovarian abscess and/or Pelvic Peritonitis. Complications from PID include infertility, ectopic pregnancy and chronic pelvic pain. Major risk factors for PID include low socioeconomic status, early Coitache, multiple sex partners, poor or no barrier contraceptive use, young age, history of induced abortion, low parity and past history of PID or Sexually Transmitted Infections.

      The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of PID among women of Child Bearing age in MagajinGariBirninGwari LGA, Kaduna State Nigeria.

      The study was a community based descriptive cross-sectional study where two hundred and seven participants were recruited using random sampling technique in the study area. A semi structured, close ended self-administered questionnaire was used asdata collection instrument. The results were analyzed using Simple Percentage Social Science (SPSS) Version 21 and presented in frequency tables and charts.

      The results depicts that; of the 207 WCBA, 171 (100%) of respondents had agreed and strongly agreed that lack of using contraceptives device like Condom, Unprotected sexual intercourse, Multiple sex partner and Induced Abortion, Surgical Termination of pregnancy are the Incidence of PID among woman of child bearing age, though the study found PID to be highest among 15-29 years old, agreed that the major risk for PID is Low Socio-Economic class and early Coitarche126(73%). However, the study found the highest number of respondents 171(100%) also agreed that PID is caused by Polymicrobialinfection with a wide variety of organism involved in Gonorrhea and Clamydia.

      The study clear concluded; lack of awareness of the incidence of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease due to some factors that are not covered in the study. Meanwhile they are all aware of the preventive measures to reduce the incidence of the disease.

      Based on the research study however; it is recommended that there should be proper education and enlightenment of people especially women through Health Education as to what Pelvic Inflammatory Disease is all about including it causes, complication, and its prevention.
