This research work was conducted to examine risk factors and preventive measure of HIV/AIDS among pregnant women attending ante natal care in Ogbomoso south local government. It informed the health officers on the understanding of pregnant women on risk factors of HIV/AIDS and regarding its preventive measures. Among the objectives was to identify the sources of information about HIV/Aids among pregnant women attending antenatal care in Ogbomoso South LGA and to identify the risk factors associated with HIV/AIDS among pregnant women attending antenatal care in Ogbomoso South LGA. Furthermore, to assess the preventive measures employed by pregnant women to reduce the risk of HIV/AIDS transmission in Ogbomoso South LGA. Many medical and allied literatures were reviewed to develop more facts for the project work.
This research use descriptive survey to sample students in the study area. Questionnaire is the instrument used to gather and analyze the data, 200 questionnaires were distributed out of which 200 were also retrieved. The study found that the prevalence of HIV/AIDS among pregnant women attending antenatal care in Ogbomoso South LGA was relatively low, with the majority of cases attributed to unprotected sexual intercourse and multiple sexual partners. Moreover, the study revealed that a lack of access to healthcare services and limited knowledge about HIV/AIDS prevention and control measures were significant risk factors for HIV/AIDS among pregnant women in the study population.
In conclusion, recommendations Interventions for preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV/AIDS should be prioritized, including the use of antiretroviral therapy, voluntary counseling and testing, and other biomedical and behavioral strategies
