
Table 4 indicates the mean and rank order on motivation for drug abuse among students of tertiary institutions. The result revealed that items 2, 1 and 3 ranked as the top three items. Items 2 stated that “students use drugs to conform to peer pressure†ranked first with a mean score of 2.78. Item 1 which stated that students use drugs to experiment how they work ranked 2nd with a mean score of 2.71. While item 3 that “students use drugs to work better†ranked 3rd with mean score of 2.70. However, items 4, 8 and 11 were ranked as the least three motivating factors for drug abuse among tertiary institution students in Kwara state. Item 4 which stated that students use drugs to make them cope with family problems ranked 13th with a mean score of 2.21. item 8 stated that students use drugs to commit suicide ranked with a mean score of 2.19 and item 11 that students use drugs to emulate their parents ranked 15th with a mean score of 2.13.
