    • Research Instruments

      The instrument used for study was questionnaire. Two (2) research instrument were used, one for students which has a total of 26 items and another for teachers which has a total of 21 items. Both questionnaires have two (2) sections A and B.

      The questionnaire designed for teachers has four (4) questions on section A and twenty-one (21) items on section B. The questionnaire designed for students has four (4) items on section A and twenty (26) items on the section B.

      In the section B of both teachers and students questionnaires, the respondents are required to respond to items using five (5) rating scale of strongly agree, (SA), Agree (A), undecided (UD), Disagree (D) and strongly disagree (SD).

      The responses were rated as follows from a positive statement.

      SA = 5points

      A   = 4points

      UD = 3points

      D   = 2 points

      SD = 1 point

      While for the negative statements

      SA = 1point

      A    = 2points

      UD = 3points

      D    = 4 points

      SD = 5 points

      Validation of Instrument

      Copies of questionnaire with copies of the research questions were given to three (3) experts in the department of science education who made several corrections, some items were reviewed and others were reconstructed.

      The experts also reviewed the items of their clarity, appropriateness of the language and expressions used including the appropriateness of the instruction to the respondent and they finally considered the instrument adequate to be used in the study.

      Administration and Scoring of the Instrument

      Copies of the questionnaires were administered to the respondents in their various schools, on the spot techniques was adopted to avoid loss and to ensure a high percentage return rate.

      Two hundred (200) copies of questionnaires were administered to the students; ten (10) were administered to the teachers. All the copies of the questionnaires were returned to the researcher consequently, the researcher proceeded to analyses the data based on the number of questionnaires returned.

      Responses on each item were computed by multiplying the frequency for each response with appropriate normal values.

      The mean responses of the respondent was calculated using the formula

      mean formular
      MEAN FORMULAR

      In order to arrive at the decision as to whether to accept or reject an item, the grand mean of responses option is computed by adding all scores from each of the response opinion and the sum is then divided by the number of opinion.

      The decision rule for the study gives

      Method of Data Analysis

      The data collected was presented in relation to the questions posed by the study. Weight mean and tables were used to analyze the data.

      Decision Rule – A mean 3.00 and above from the respondent was regarded as agree while mean below 3.00 was regarded as disagree.
