    • 1.5 Objectives

      i. Create a Web based system that will solve the problems of the existing system being used for departmental dues payment

ii. Develop a system that allows a student save his/her departmental dues in an account before the period of registration.

iii. Allow students to pay their departmental dues anywhere and anytime during registration.

iv. Ease and speed up registration of students every session.

      v. Test and validate the system prototype.

      1.6 Significance of Study

Literature asserts that, for nearly every business, the simple act of collecting payments from consumers is actually quite complex and yet organizations want to make it easy and convenient for customers to pay.  This study will be of immense benefit to other researchers who intend to know more on this study and can also be used by non-researchers to build more on their research work. This study contributes to knowledge and could serve as a guide for other study.

      1.7 Scope

The scope of this project is to develop an Payment Portal System (PPS) for the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic , Akwa Ibom State. The system will accommodate only the administrator, bank staffs and students into one integrated Database system. This project is also scoped to only undergraduate programs in the Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic , Akwa Ibom State and it is designed for the computer science department

      The proposed research method that would be adopted is as follows;

      i. Requirement Assessment -: A thorough assessment of the current existing system will be carried out and the requirements of the new system will be clearly defined by interviewing some students and lecturers.

ii. Application Program -: At this stage, the design work flow will be converted to code and debugged.

iii. Testing and Development -: The completed application will be tested and deployed on remote web host, ready for use..

      1.8 Limitations of the Study

During the course of this study, many things militated against its completion, some of which are:  Time Constraint: The time frame given to accomplish this project was very short due to school academic calendar and it was carried out under pressure which made the researcher not to implement some necessary features. Establishment Policies: Establishment policies posed a serious limitation as most staffs are not ready to release information needed for this project work. There were lots of information needed from the staffs of this institution to enhance the study which took them time to release or they did not release at all for security purposes, hence the scope was reduced. Research material: availability of research material is a major setback to the scope of the study. Frequent power failure: This made the researcher append more money on fuel to ensure sustainable power. Financial Constraint: Insufficient fund tends to impede the efficiency of the researcher in sourcing for the relevant materials, literature or information and in the process of data collection (internet).

      1.9 Definition of Terms

Credentials: A qualification, achievement, quality, or aspect of a person's background, especially when used to indicate their suitability for something.

Electronic: (of a device) having or operating with components such as microchips and transistors that control and direct electric currents. Information: What is conveyed or represented by a particular arrangement or sequence of things.

Login: The act of logging in to a database, mobile device, or computer, especially a multiuser computer or a remote or networked computer system.

Online: It is any activity that is performed while connected to a computer or under computer control.
