    • The component directly attached to or part of the motherboard include:
      •    The CPU (central processing unit) the platform for most of the calculations which enable the computer to function, and it’s sometimes referred to as the “brain” of the computer. It is usually cooled by heat sink and fan. Most new CPUs include an on-die Graphics Processing Unit (GPU).
      •    The Chipset, which    include    the    north    bridge,    mediates communication between the CPU and other components of the system, including main memory.
      •    The Random-Access Memory (RAM) stores the code and data
that are being actively accessed by the CPU.
      •    The Read-only Memory (ROM) stores the BIOS that run when the computer is powered or otherwise begins execution, a process known as bootstrapping, or “booting” or “booting up”. The BIOS
(basic input and output system) include boot firmware and power management firmware. Newer motherboard use Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Instead of BIOS.
      •    Buses connect the CPU to various internal components and expand cards for graphical and sound.
      •    The CMOS battery is also attached to the motherboard. This battery is the same as a watch battery or a battery for a remote to a
car’s central locking for data and time in the BIOS chip.
      2.2    MOTHERBOARD FOR LINUX
Linux currently support with Intel 80386, 80486, Pentium, Pentium pro, and Pentium III CPU. This include all variations on this CPU type as the 386SX, 486SX, 486DX, and 486DX2. Non Intel “clones” such as AMD and Cyrix processors, work with Linux as well.
      (d)    EXPANSION CARDS
An expansion card in computing is a printed circuit board that can be inserted into an expansion slot of a computer motherboard or backplane to add functionally to a computer system via the expansion bus. Expansion cards can be used to obtain or expand on feature not offered by the motherboard.
      (e)    STORAGE DEVICE
Computer data storage, often called storage memory, refers to computer components and recording media that digital data. Data storage is a core function and fundamental components of computers, the price of solid state drive (SSD), which store data on flash memory, has dropped a lot in recent years, making them a better choice than ever to add to a computer to make both up and accessing files faster.

CHAPTER ONE - [ Total Page(s): 8 ]POWER SUPPLY UNIT A supply unit (PSU) converts main AC to low-voltage regulated DC power for the internal components of a computer. Modern personal computer universally use a switched-mode power supply. Some power supplies have a manual selector for input voltage, while other automatically adapt to the supply voltage. ... CHAPTER THREE - [ Total Page(s): 5 ] CHAPTER THREE3.0    DETAILED REVIEW ON THE THEORIES AND PRINCIPLE OF OPERATING SYSTEMAn operating system is the largest and the most complicated software running on most machines. By knowing how operating system work, we learn how to organize a large piece of software (system design), how to hide complexity (abstraction), how to tune a large system (performance), and how to share software and hardware components i ...
