CHAPTER FOUR
SYSTEM IMPLEMENTATION, RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
4.1 Introduction
This chapter focused on providing a comprehensive description of how the designed system carries out its operation, what it requires to operate and the outcome of its operation. The information provided were supported with images of the system interfaces.
4.2 Choice of Programming Languages Used
The web-based human rights violation reporting system was developed using PHP, MYSQL, HTML and JavaScript.
i. Hypertext Pre-Processor (PHP)
PHP is a server scripting language designed for web development and also used as a general purpose programming language. It is a powerful tool for dynamic and interactive web pages. PHP belongs to a class of languages called middleware languages, and it establishes connection between the back-end and the front-end. PHP is easy, fast and platform independent.
ii. My Structured Query Language (MYSQL)
MYSQL is an open-source relational database management system (RDBMS), and most widely used in open-source client-server RDBMS. MySQL is cost-effective unlike Sybase, oracle and Informix. Also, small and medium sized MySQL databases are very fast and powerful.
iii. Hypertext Mark-up Language (HTML)
HTML is the standard mark-up language used to create web pages. It is written in the form of HTML elements consisting of tags enclosed in angle brackets (e.g. <html>, </html>). HTML allows images and objects to be embedded and can be used to create interactive forms.
iv. JavaScript
JavaScript is the scripting language (a lightweight programming language) of the web, designed to add interactivity to HTML pages. JavaScript code are usually embedded directly into HTML pages. JavaScript can put dynamic text into an HTML page and allows reactions (response) to certain events.
4.3 System Requirements
The system requirements needed for the operation of this system are categorized into two:
4.3.1 Software Requirements
The software requirements needed for this system include:
i. Any operating system ranging from windows 7 and above,
ii. JavaScript enabled web browser, and
iii. An internet access to access the system by both users
iv. A database driven web hosting server to keep the system intact.
4.3.2 Hardware Requirements
The computer hardware requires at least the following specifications:
i. A computer system or smart phone that support internet access.
ii. A memory space of 512 GB RAM and above.
iii. Capacity Storage (Hard Disk) of 100 GB and above to store the submitted cases.
4.4 The System Implementation
Implementation broadly refers to the process of putting the subsystem together to form a new system, and test it to see its result. The system has two (2) different interfaces, one for the NHRC staff and one for the users (complainants). But the staff’s interface comes after the staff register or login to the system.
