This study assesses the influence of motivation on teachers job performance in the school system. Specifically, the study examines the extent secondary school teachers perform their jobs in Egor Local Government secondary schools, determines the level of motivation of secondary teachers in Egor Local Government Area, determines whether motivation influences teachers’job performance in Egor Local Government Area Secondary schools, determines the level of job performance and motivation amongst teachers in urban and rural schools and determines the level of job performance and motivation amongst teachers in public and private schools. The study employed the survey descriptive research design.
A total of 30 responses were validated from the survey. The study adopts the Abraham Maslow theory of motivation. From the responses obtained and analysed, the findings reveals that the extent secondary school teachers perform their jobs in Egor Local Government secondary schools is very high. Furthermore, the findings revealed that the level of motivation of secondary teachers in Egor Local Government Area is high. The study recommends that government should ensure that teacher’s salaries are regularly paid which will motivate the ability of the teachers. Authorities should motivate business studies teachers with fringe benefit and incentives in other to make them increase their teaching performance.
The study further recommends that public and private secondary schools should provide incentive packages to increase teachers’ motivation. Special attention should be put at increasing teacher‘s salaries because the majority of them (teachers) complained about the inadequacy of their salaries to meet their needs. Increasing teacher‘s salaries will increase their morale to teach.
