    • 1.7 Scope Of Study

      This study is structured to focus on the impact of school inspection on the academic performance of students in secondary schools in Nigeria. The study will be conducted in some selected secondary schools in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers state. Hence, academic and non-academic staff of the selected schools will serve as respondents for this study.

      1.8 Limitation of the Study

      Financial constraint- Insufficient fund tends to impede the efficiency of the researcher in sourcing for the relevant materials, literature or information and in the process of data collection (internet, questionnaire and interview).

      Time constraint- The researcher will simultaneously engage in this study with other academic work. This consequently will cut down on the time devoted for the research work.


      1.9 Definition of Terms

      School:

      A school is an institution designed to provide learning spaces and learning environments for the teaching of students (or “pupils”) under the direction of teachers. Most countries have systems of formal education, which is commonly compulsory. In these systems, students’ progress through a series of schools.

      Inspect: 

      To examine something carefully in order to judge its quality or correctness. (Microsoft Encarta, 2009). In the context of this study is to examine and evaluate all activities in a school setting.

      Supervision:

      Supervision is the act or function of overseeing something or somebody. A person who performs supervision is a “supervisor”, but does not always have the formal title of supervisor. A person who is getting supervision is the “supervisee”.

      Impact: 

      To have an effect on something or somebody and have an immediate and strong effect on something or somebody. In this study the impact is on the effect of school inspection on student academic achievement.

      Academic Performance:

      Academic achievement or (academic) performance is the extent to which a student, teacher or institution has achieved their short or long-term educational goals. Cumulative GPA and completion of educational degrees such as High School and bachelor’s degrees represent academic achievement.


      1.10 Organization of the Study

      The study is categorized into five chapters. The first chapter presents the background of the study, statement of the problem, objective of the study, research questions and hypothesis, the significance of the study, scope/limitations of the study, and definition of terms. The chapter two covers the  review of literature with emphasis on conceptual framework, theoretical framework, and empirical review. Likewise, the chapter three which is the research methodology, specifically covers the research design, population of the study,  sample size determination,  sample size, abnd selection technique and procedure, research instrument and administration, method of data collection, method of data analysis, validity and reliability of the study, and ethical consideration. The second to last chapter being the chapter four presents the data presentation and analysis, while the last chapter(chapter five) contains the summary, conclusion and recommendation.
