    • This study was carried out to assess the role of motivation on the academic performance of students, using some selected secondary schools in Dange Shuni Local Government Area of Sokoto State as a case study. The study was specifically set to determine the whether motivation significantly influence the academic performance of students, determine the extent teachers motivate their students, assess whether parental motivation significantly influences students performance, and ascertain whether there is a significant difference between the performance of students who are motivated and students who are not motivated. The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study.
      The population size comprise of teachers and students of some selected secondary schools in Dange Shuni Local Government Area of Sokoto State. In determining the sample size, the researcher conveniently selected 200 respondents and 150 were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables. While the hypotheses were tested using T-test statistical tool, SPSS v23. The result of the findings reveals that motivation significantly influence the academic performance of students, but teachers do not adequately motivate their students. The study also revealed that there is a significant difference between the performance of students who are motivated and students who are not motivated. Therefore, it is recommended that the  use of effective and positive motivation should be incorporated in the curriculum as an approach used in teaching economics in the classroom.  To mention but a few.
