The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the issues related to classroom management and control in secondary schools within the Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State. The research design was a descriptive survey aimed at examining teachers' management and control of classrooms in these schools. The study was conducted in the Orumba North area of Anambra State, involving a population of 1,500 individuals. A proportionate sampling method was used to select 812 participants from Orumba North, with a simple random sampling technique applied to differentiate male teachers from female teachers. Consequently, the total sample size was 812.
Data collection was facilitated through a structured questionnaire. For data analysis, the researcher utilized mean scores and standard deviations to address the study's research questions. Based on the findings, several recommendations were made:
School principals and teachers should use various communication methods to ensure students effectively understand the information conveyed to them.
Secondary school management and teachers should employ different strategies to instill discipline in students, such as appropriate punishment.
Principals and teachers should consistently reward and motivate students who perform well with positive reinforcement and gifts.
Secondary school management should discourage teachers from exceeding their allotted class time to help teachers plan and utilize their time effectively.
Teacher education institutions should focus more on imparting classroom management skills to teacher-trainees.
School principals should closely supervise teachers' classroom activities to address any weaknesses in classroom management skills.
Conferences, workshops, seminars, and other in-service programs should be regularly organized for teachers to keep them updated with the latest innovations in classroom management.
