4.3.2 Operational Hypotheses
H1: There is no significant relationship between facebook utilization and students’ academic performance in Alimosho LGA.
The result in table 8 showed that the percentage of the respondent who use Facebook are greater than the percentage of those who do not use, the null hypothesis which states that there is no significant relationship between facebook utilization and students’ academic performance in Alimosho LGA, Lagos State is hereby rejected. Of course, the preponderant use of Facebook tends to have a negative effect on the students’ academic performance. The woeful performance of students in selected schools in five consecutive years- 2010 and 2015- showed that these sites were not being used to aid their academic performance. One would think that with the dominant usage of the site by students, their performance in both internal and external examinations would be something to write home about, but the reverse is the case.
