SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Summary of findings
1. The result obtained through analysis pointed out that students were highly indifferent on the geographic settlement of the School as it relates to their academic performance. What affected them the most was the immediate environmental factors which constituted a major distraction to their learning just as it sometimes disrupt their academic schedules.
2. It also identified the distance between Student’s home and the School as a critical area affecting their academic performance as oftentimes lesson were missed due to their inability to meet up with the resumption and lesson time.
3. The findings indicated that access to Library resources and other academic materials in the School positively influenced Students’ academic performance.
4. It was noted also, that the building designs and ergonomics of the School environment generally had a significant effect on the learning psyche of Students.
5. Classroom population density as well as provision of furniture were very important areas affecting the academic performance of students.
6. A significant percentage (60%) of schools had classroom illumination level inadequacies. This is likely to impair their vision eventually lead to poor academic performance.
Conclusion
The hypothesis postulated for the study, were proven right. This underscored that fact that quality of school environment interacts a way that influences students’ academic performance. Ilorin West Local Government Area has a lot of both Private and Public Secondary Schools from which ten (10) Schools were isolated for the study.
The findings made in this research buttresses the need for the government, relevant regulatory authorities and other stakeholders in the education sector to address identified problems that impedes on Students’ Academic Performance in Ilorin West Local Government Area. Proper land use system or necessary adjustments should be looked into to assist Students whose present school environment and learning are inhibited.
Recommendations
Based on the finding from the study, the following are recommended:
1. Government should invoke a policy on that will enshrine a minimum comfort on students per classroom for all Secondary Schools in the entire Local Government Area.
2. School owners should evolve an effective logistics arrangement that will ensure that no Student miss out on lessons by reason of the distance between their residence and the School. This may be achieved through Public-Private-Partnerships (P-P-P) or other feasible means.
3. Schools should be cited in locations that are secured and less distractive to Students learning and other environmental pollutions.
4. Every School should have functional Libraries that will enhance Students further reading and study.
5. Recreational facilities should be provided in every school to help Students participate and understand theoretical teachings with practice.
6. A pegging policy should be introduced such that Schools can only admit Students based on approved limits in relation to the number of classrooms available. This is to discourage classroom discomforts.
Suggestion for further Studies
Based on the findings, the following suggestions are made for further studies:
1. A study on the quality of Teachers on students’ Academic Performance in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.
2. A research on financial investment on school environment by school owners and the effect on students’ Academic Performance in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.
