      1.    Concept of student personnel services
In the administration of secondary schools, student personnel services are an integral part but quite separate from and distinct instructional aspect and very vital for the effective and efficient functioning of the school student personnel have a distinct linkage on the smooth running of the schools. Student personnel services. According to kadir (2013) refers to the services that are concerned with the administration of non-instructional function and services of the school that concern the student. Ofoegbu (2017) refers to student personnel services that are concerned with those aspects that directly affects the student or call for his attention. Student personnel services encompasses those administrative and supervisory roles and services other classroom instruction that are concerned with the identification, admission, classification of students, as well as those services which adequately made available and properly administrated contributes properly administrated contributes significantly to the physical mental and emotional growth and academic performance of the students (Clarke, 2007) oyedeyi (2012) refers to student personnel services as those activities provided in the school system for learner’s use which compliment inter personal harmony, conducive teaching-learning environment. This includes academic guidance and couselling, provision of financial assistance, student welfare services, provision of student extra and co-curricular activities, institutional communication devices, students discipline devices, employment and placement services and students participation In school management Dada conceptualized students personnel services as those facilities provided in the school system which can contribute towards the attainment of the goal of education. This entails, the production of “complete man” an individual who is usual not only to himself but to the larger society
      2.    Aims and objectives of student personnel services Olokoba (2009) and olabode (2012) enumerate the objectives of student personnel services to any educational institution to include:
      i.    Helping students to develop fully their inate potentials through effective and efficient use of available resources at their disposal
ii.    Lead the students on how to make intelligent choice about their profession
iii.    Provide the students with the enabling environment that is physically, intellectually and morally conducive for their learning throughout their stay in the school
iv.    Motivate the students so that they can make use a more efficient and effective manner.
Concerted efforts are being made by secondary schools towards retaining students and also improve the quality of their lives which revolved round the provision of there services. Abisoye (2006) revealed that most of student crises in the educational institutions in Nigeria are basically precipitated as a result of defect of defiulience in the student personnel services e.g lack of infrastructural facilities e.g water, electicity, access road, inadequate provision of medical facilities, accommodation or boarding facilities. It has to be noted that the persistent mass failure, indiscipline and unrest in school are due to the none existence of hostel accommodation in most of the public secondary schools. The importance of accommodating  the students in the hostel is that they are directly under the control, supervision and care of the house masters who sees their activities
      3.    Component of student personnel services: for effective administration of the secondary schools so that to achieved, the following component of the student personnel services should be put in place by the school management among which are:
Library services: this is a very vital aspect of student personnel services because they tend to have a direct bearing on student academic excellence.
Aina (2005) maintained that the library provide a solid  or vital and useful information to the student for academic work before, during and after examination.
(Olaitan 2003, Aina 2005) sees the school library as an array of books and other forms of records, housed organised, and interpreted to meet broad and varying needs of people for information, recreation and aesthetic enjoyment.
Health services: In a normal school setting, the student has free access to medical services in the student in the school at least the medical Centre must provide service round the clock, seven days in a week so that student suffering from various lament such as headache, malaria fever, may be attended to Olaitan (2003) was of the opinion that apart from providing for the medical care of the students, the school should have a health policy which measures against the outbreak and spread of disease.  Good health is very fundamental to students learning.
Guidance and Counseling services : this is an integral part programme with the aims of helping students to adjust to the school life. Effectively persued curriculum as well as co-curriculum activities for making “vise and plans solve individual problems through counseling .
Transportation services : the school administrator must try as much as possible to provide enough uses to and from school for the students. Transportation services as a component of student personnel services if a great facility for the students which can aid their movement to and from any academic activities like excursion, football competition, quiz competition e.t.c.
Ankewuyo (1997) maintained that the need for the availability of transport system as a indispensable part of the school system. A school bus despite conveying students within and outside the school premises is also very essential for other vital services which make learning more effective.
