    • CHAPTER THREE
          The chapter focuses on the various procedures and approaches to be used in the collection and analysis of data and it is discussed under the following sub-headings:
      -    Research Design
      -    Population, Sample and Sampling Technique
      -    Instrumentation
      -    Procedure for Data Collection
      -    Method of Data Analysis
      Research Design
          The study is a descriptive study of correctional type. The descriptive study attempts fragment and delimits phenomena into a measurable or common category that can be applied to all the subject or wider and similar situation. The rationale from the choice of the descriptive research is that it helps to describe situations, prevailing practices and condition which the study was set to ascertain.
      Population Sample and Sampling Techniques
          The population for the study comprised of ninety pupils in selected basic schools in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State. Proportional sampling was used to select 10 out of various basic schools in Ilorin South Local Government Area, Kwara State. Ten teachers shall also be randomly selected from the schools making the number of respondents to hundred in all.
      Instrumentation
          School population and students’ academic performance of Basic Schools Questionnaire (SPSAPU SCE) was designed to collect information on the school population. The instrument was divided into two sections; These are section A and section B. section A consist of information on the personal background of the responders such as sex, qualification, name of school etc. while section B consists of a number of questions relating to the school population and academic performance.
      The instrument, was validated by one lecturer in the department of educational management, in University of Ilorin Nigeria. Is suggestion and comments were incorporated into the final copies of the instrument. The corrected draft was scrutinized before administration to the respondents.
          The reliability of the questionnaire was determined using retest method for a pilot study in two basic schools different from the sample schools. The instrument will be distributed to ten randomly selected basic schools and a total of 10 respondents from each school. The instrument will be re-administered to the respondents after a period of two weeks of the instrument first administering to the respondents. The results from the two administrations will be correlated using Pearson product-moment correlation statistics. The co-efficient of reliability of the questionnaire will be determined subsequently.
      Procedure for Data Collection
          The researcher was administered the questionnaire in ten basic schools Ilorin South Local Government Area, Kwara State.
      Method of Data Analysis
      Frequency count and percentage were used for research questions and pearson product moment was also used to text main and operational hypothesis generated at 0.05 levels of significance.
