CHAPTER THREE
Research method
This chapter focuses attention on the following sub heading: research design, population of the study, sample and sampling techniques, Research instrument(s), Procedure for data collection, Method of Data Analysis.
Research Design
The study is basically descriptive survey of the correlational type as it attempts to investigated into whether personnel management practices have significant relationship with job satisfaction of the teachers in Ilorin South Local Education Authority in Kwara State.
Population of the Study
There are 740 teachers in Ilorin South Local Education Authority of Secondary school in Kwara State 50 teachers were randomly selected from each of the 10 schools. The overall population therefore was 500 teachers.
Sample and sampling Techniques
Simple random sampling procedure was used to select the secondary schools so that the sampling could be truly representative.
Research Instrument
The data for the study was gathered mainly through the use of questionnaire. Two set of questionnaires were used for the study.
(a) Job satisfaction Questionnaire (JSQ) A teacher job satisfaction questionnaire was used. This instrument contains 2 question items, positive and negative statement. It has this rating techniques:
Very Satisfied (VS) 4 points.
Fairly Satisfied (FS) 3 points
Fairly Dissatisfied (FD) 2 points
Very Dissatisfied (VD) 1 point
The scores of the 17 items were summed together to determine the respondents’ Overall level of the job satisfaction.
(b) Personnel Management Practices Description Questionnaire (PMPDQ).
This instrument has sections A and B. Section A based on the Personal information of the respondents such as sex, age, year of employment, school and department, while section B based on personnel management practices and teacher job satisfaction.
Validity and reliability of the instrument(s)
The questionnaire was using content and construct validity method by project supervisor who examines its correctness and rectified it to determine its validity.
Procedure for data collection.
With the permission of post primary teaching service commission of Kwara State copies of the questionnaire were distributed in ten (100 selected Secondary Schools in Ilorin South Local Government Authority of Kwara State. The questionnaires were given to the teachers directly by the researcher and collected back a week after.
Method of Data Analysis
Both descriptive and influential statistics were used to analysis the data collected. The descriptive statistical used includes the mean standard deviation and percentages. The pearson product moment correlation coefficient statistics was used to determine the relationship between personnel management and job satisfaction among Secondary School teachers in Ilorin South Local Government Authority of Kwara State.
