Operational Hypotheses
HO1: There is no significant relationship between educational status of parents and students' academic performance in Lagelu Local Government Area, Oyo state.
As shown in Table 2, the calculated r-value of .312 is greater than the critical r- value of .195 at .05 level of significance for 198 degrees of freedom. The null hypothesis which states that there is no significant relationship between educational status of parents and students’ academic performance was rejected. Therefore, significant relationship exists between educational status of parents and students’ academic performance. This means that educational status of the parents would also aid the level of students’ academic performance. The findings of Eccles and Kean (2005) stated that the relationship between parent’s education and their children’s academic success is on the notion that the parents gain knowledge of parenting and this influences their interaction at home.
