      REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
          The chapter deals with the review of some related literature under the following subtopic:-
      1.    Meaning of Religion and types of Religion in Nigeria and National Value.
      2.    Rationale for recommendation
      3.    Factors Affecting Religion and National values?
      4.    Teacher Support material for the Implementation of the Revised 9-year Basic Education curriculum BEC
      Meaning of Religion
          Religion is a believe in a divine  or supernatural/power or power to be obeyed and worshipped as the creator (s) and rulers of the universe (Barnard Robert 2002).
          A religion is a particular system of belief in a god or good and the activities that are connected with this system.
          Religion have always played an important role in the life of the every African, and our country is not an Exception  Religion in Nigeria are various nowadays.
          Nigeria is proud to beaver religion country with different religions depending in the region.
          The religion practice are
      1.    Islam:-     It was first introduced in Northern part of the country
      2.    Christian Religion:- This religion came through British, invasion in Nigeria, the idea they learnt from the European were spread throughout the country.
      3.    Old traditional Religion:- May people practice this traditional religion in Nigeria, because there are some tribes that still believe in the power of nature or huge amount of God 
      About the Revised the 9 year Basic Education curriculum (BEC), it was developed.  I response to Nigeria needs for relevant, dynamic, and globally, competitive education that would ensures socio, economic and national development specifically BEC was developed to ensure that learners at the basic education level receive well-rounded education capable to compete favorably anywhere in the world in terms of knowledge, skills techniques and, values and aptitude. It (BEC) addresses among others things; the issues of value re-orientate poverty eradication, critical thinking and life skills.’”
      National council for social studies re-affirms that study about religion should be an essential part of social studies curriculum knowledge about religion is not only a characteristics of an educated person but is necessary. For effective and engaged citizenship in a diverse nations and world. Religion literacy dispels stereotypes, promotes, cross-cultural understanding arid encourage respect for rights of others to religious liberty.
      Religion plays a significant roles in history and society, study religion is essential to understanding both religion and the world omission of facts about religion can give students the failure impression that the religion life of human kind is insignificant or unimportant failure to understand even the basic symbols practices and concept of the various religion makes much of history literature, art, and contemporary life unintelligible.
      In 1988, NCSS joined with 16 leading educational, religion and civil liberty group to publish a common group statement that stated in part.
      Rationale for Recommendation and Recommendations-:
      National council for the social studies strongly supports inclusion of study about religion as an essential parts of the social studies curriculum.
      Knowledge of religion is also necessary for understanding much history , politics, ethics, art and literature, study about religion In the social studies explores the religious dimension of human existence in its broader cultural context, including its relation to economic, political, and social instructions as well as its relations to the arts , geography, language and literature.
      NCSS recommends that state department of education work to ensure inclusion of study about religions, including the role of religion in history and society, in all social studies programs. NCSS support course offering in religious studies as long as the Teachers teaching such courses have appropriate academic training in study about religions. NCSS furthers recommends that stte department of education review social studies frame works, setting standard fo religious studies courses and the inclusion of study about religion where appropriate.
