CHAPTER TWO
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
The multifaceted problem associated with technique as a profession call for holistic techniques of discipline among teachers ensuring coverage of syllabus and carring out instruction of government in school effective.
For the purpose, the review is done under the following sub-headings
i. Roles of a teachers
ii. Concept of a Decision making
iii. Factors of the decision making
iv. Principal Decision making strategies
v. Decision making through persuasion
vi. Decision making through command
vii. Principal’s duties
viii. Appraisal of the literature reviewed
According to (Oni 2007) teachers effectiveness defend on a lot of factors among which are the school environment educational, policy, economic background of the students or pupils, provision of necessary. Materials and facilities appropriate evaluation techniques, academic performance of students knowledge of subject matter, quality of lesson plan and Importantly the administrative strategies of the principal.
CONCEPT OF DECISION-MAKING
Decision-making is a very importance element of administrative leadership Aliyu (2002) comment on decision making as the process of choosing from among two or more available options in response to situation requiring altered action. This that in decision making several alterations from which one alternative is chosen is usually at one’s disposal. Infect (Aliyu 2002) opined that decision making is the actual selection. Among several alternative in taking a course of action. It is process of deliberating, calculating or reflecting over an issue either consciously or unconsciously and reflection is known as decision is the selection of alternative in order to achieve a give objective.
He also noted that a decision is choice aimed at achieving, it could also be seen as the situation in order to master it or increase our knowledge in the area in which decision is to be made. One may equate decision making to planning so much that they are clamed to be both synonymous.
Oyedeji (2002) stressed that almost everything done an organisation involves decision for example; education decision could be on methods or values.
Education decision therefore involve choice and such decision could be on the right curriculum on the establishment of new school e.g should grammar commercial teacher recruitment student discipline and implementation of new programmes.
All these decision involve evaluation Decision could be simple or complex especially when it involves a number of people and many alternatives. It involves it requires training and knowledge of fact in most organisation
Strategic decisions affect the fact of the entire establishment and that is necessary to avoid bad decision which could be done by gathering adequate information and the using of the right method of decision making.
Sanni (2004) affirms that a decision by a school principal, for instance commits the whole school to a course of action.
Owolabi (2006) invariably, result of school personnel decision are seen in term of policies, rules and regulation that guide the subsequent behaviour of their student and other members of the school body. Decision making therefore is an organisation of ideas put forward to be shared by the number of the organisational goals.
Oyedeji (2002) it is an attempt to solve the riddles and problem of organisation and in order to make the decision sound and effectiveness the one with mantle of leadership should posses a good knowledge of problem-solving techniques if solution for a give problem is to be attained the decision leading to the solution must be realistic and as practical as possible to the scenario.
