    • CHAPTER THREE
      RESEARCH METHOD
      This chapter presents the method used in collection and analysis of data. It focused on the following sub-headings:
      Research Design
          The research design used for this study was a descriptive research design that allows the researcher’s to ensure careful records of what was observed for proper analysis of the information obtained from the despondence. It was considered appropriate because of the focus of the study which intended to determined the relationship that exist between teachers’ development programme and school effectiveness in senior secondary school in Kwara State.
      Population, Sample and Sampling Techniques        
          Population for this study consist 2,250 teachers and 593 Non teaching staff total 2,843. In the regard, school administrators and other academic staff, such as career officers and school counselors formed part of the population.
          The researcher used stratified sampling techniques to select 20 senior secondary schools from Ilorin West Local Government Area, Kwara State. Stratified sampling techniques was equally used to select 20 principles, 200 teachers and 40 career officers from the sampled schools total 260 respondents.
      Instrumentation
      The instrument tagged “Teachers Development Programme and School Effectiveness Questionnaire (TDPSEQ)” were developed by the researchers to collect relevant information from the respondents. The questionnaire consist of two sections, that is, A and B. section A focused on personal information of the respondents while Section B was sub-divided into four part and it contained statements on the stated problems.
          There are four different alternative responses on each item and the respondents were expected to tick the most appropriate one, that is:
      SA     -     Strongly Agree
      A       -    Agree
      D     -    Disagree
      SD    -    Strongly Disagree
      Validation
          The instrument were given to the project supervisor, expert in field of measurement and evaluation and lecturers in department of educational management to determine the contents and face validity of instruments. There corrections and amendment were in corportated in the final drafted questionnaire.
      Reliability
      For the reliability of the instrument a test-re-test method of reliability was adopted, 40 copies of the questionnaire were administered to principals, teachers and career officers of one of the school that was not part of the previously sampled school within an interval of two weeks. The questionnaire was found reliable at 0.05 level of significance when the
      result was correlated.
      Procedure for Data Collection
          The researcher’s visited the schools personally for the purpose of administering the questionnaire. The researcher sought the permission of the school authorities to administer the questionnaire while the assistance of the Vice-Principals were sought for easy administration of the instrument. A total one two hundred and sixty copies of questionnaire were dully filled returned within the specified period.
      Method of Data Analysis
      Percentage will be used for demographic data of respondent, it will also be used to analyse research questions raised while PPME will be used to analysis main and operational hypothesis raised at 0.05 level of significant.
