2.3    Impact of School Records on the Performance of Students
2.4    Effect of Records in school Management

2.2    Types and Significant of Records in Senior Secondary  School
The number of records being kept in all schools cannot be instantly known. Even when it is possible to count the number, the exercise is not worth the efforts. This is because school varies from place to place in terms of their educational practices and theories, as well as in types of teachers employed to work within the system. Hence, there is bound to be some differences in the type of records to be kept in these school. The proposal which emanated as a result of the revision came into existence in 1927 and expressed concern for strong commitment to the principle of local decision making, in the following items:
The procedures described and the forms produced in the bulletin are intended to be a suggestive, rather than prescriptive. Final prescription as to just what records should be kept and what reports should be made cannot be made at this time. Definite prescription and more complete uniformity must want upon further research and experience. Rather than uncritically adopting any particular set of records forms, whether found in this bulletin or developed by other agencies; a school system should evaluate in the light of best theory and its own peculiarly needs several alternative set of forms. Nevertheless, a close examination of the senior secondary school records clearly revealed that such records includes all documents containing useful information relating to what goes on in the school, the kind of students admitted, the kinds of teachers employed, as well as the types of facilities the school possesses.
          Hence, school records can be classified under the following sub-headings;
      a.    Record on pupil personnel
      b.    Record on school properties
      c.    Record on school activities
However, in the remaining part of this section, each of the above records will be discussed in details.
      2.2.1    Record on Pupil Personnel
The cumulative Record: This is an office record showing comprehensive information on student’s social, personality, behavioural and academic growth from primary to secondary. It is the most important record fund in the school system. Its purpose is to assist teachers, counselors and school authority in providing guidance to the students as well as surplus external agencies with necessary information that may be required on a particular students, from time to time.
      Other purposes include:
      1.    Providing information on the growth and development of the student
      2.    Assisting in understanding of the student’s behaviour
      3.    Assisting in identifying the gifted and the slow learning students
      4.    Providing guidance in funding out students with special abilities and disabilities
      5.    Assisting in identifying the personality and behavioural difficulties of students
      6.    Providing solutions to causes and cures of behavioural problems
      7.    Assisting students for better understanding of themselves
      8.    Making comprehensive report of students available when needed or requested for. These purpose were further buttressed by the assertion of Baccenbacher (1960).
