      RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter dealt with the methods employed in the conduct of the study on teachers’ quality and students’ academic performance in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area Secondary Schools, Oyo State.  The methodology has been discussed under the following subheadings:
      1.    Research Design
      2.    Population Sample and Sampling Technique
      3.    Instrumentation
      4.    Procedure for Data Collection
      5.    Data Analysis Technique
      Research Design
This study adopted a descriptive survey of correlational type. Descriptive research is concerned with the collection and analysis of data for the purpose of describing, evaluating or comparing current event or prevailing practices, event or occurrences. A descriptive research design is appropriate because it describes the characteristics of the variable of interest in the study. Therefore, it examined the relationship between teachers’ quality and students’ academic performance.
      Population, Sample and Sampling Technique
The population of this study comprised all the teachers in public secondary schools in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area, Oyo State. Simple random sampling technique was used to select 10 out of twenty five secondary schools. Purposive sampling technique was used to select fifteen teachers from each selected school. Thus, one hundred and fifty teachers were  used for the study out of three hundred and sixty seven  teachers in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area, Oyo State.
      Instrumentation
The instrument for this study  was designed  by the researcher entitled “Teachers’ Quality  Questionnaire” (TQQ) and Students’ Academic Performance Proforma  which were used to o collect students’ WAEC results from 2014 to 2016 academic sessions. The questionnaire was subdivided into two parts A and B. Part A dealt with the demographic data of  the respondents on gender, academic qualification, teaching experience, job status, professional qualifications while part B of   TQQ contained  items relating to the sub- variables  that were  generated on the teachers’ quality. The rating scale was rated using  Likert- rating scale, which ranges from 4 to 1. The scale was  rated as follows:
      Strong agree            -     4
      Agree                      -     3
      Disagree                 -     2
      Strongly disagree   -     1
Validity is the extent to which we know what the test or instrument measures and how well it does so. The instrument was submitted to three experts and the supervisor in the Department of Educational Management. Their comments and corrections were incorporated in the final validation procedure in order to ascertain its content and face validity.
The test re-test method was used to determine the reliability of the instrument. The research instrument was administered on twenty teachers that were drawn outside the sampled schools; these questionnaires were administered   twice within the time interval of three weeks. The two results were correlated using the Pearson product moment correlation statistic in order to determine its reliability. The coefficient of 0.63 was obtained showing the instrument was reliable.
      Procedure for Data Collection
The questionnaire was distributed by the researcher to the selected sampled public secondary schools in in Ogbomoso South Local Government Area Secondary Schools, Oyo State. The researcher retrieved the complete questionnaire from the respondents and use for the analysis of the study.
      Method of  Data Analysis
The data collected was  subjected to analysis using SPSS package of the computer unit. Therefore, descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentages was used to analyze the demographic data of the respondents while inferential statistics of Pearson product moment correlation was  used to test the generated research hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance.
