Research Design
This study is a descriptive research type. Descriptive research is a research that is concerned with the collection of data for the purpose of describing and interpreting exiting conditions prevailing practices and on-going process (Olasunkanmi & Sowunmi, 2001). It is majorly used in investigating a variety of educational problems with an attempt to analyse the relationships between existing variables Adesina and Nwanyanwu (2005). The study sought to find out the effect of school’s factors on student academic performance in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun state.
Population, Sample and Sampling Techniques
The population for this study consisted of all students in junior secondary schools in Ogun state. There are eight (8) secondary schools in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun state, out of which three (3) secondary schools were randomly selected. Random sampling technique was used to select the samples for the study. This was employed to ensure that all the respondents had an equal chance of being selected. A total of 100 students were randomly selected for the study.
Instrumentation
Questionnaire was used as instrument for data collection for this study. The instrument had two parts: (Sections A and B). Section A dealt with respondents’ bio data. The items under this section sought information on personal data of respondents such as sex, school, among others. Section B contained items meant to elicit information on the problem of the study.
Process for Data Collection
The researcher personally administered the questionnaire in the three selected secondary schools in Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State. One hundred (100) copies of the questionnaire covering the population of the study were distributed to the one hundred (100) sampled students. After the administration, the entire questionnaires were collected back the same day.
Data Analysis Techniques
The data collected for this study were analysed using the descriptive statistics of percentage for research question one. Research questions 2 to 4 were answered with their corresponding hypotheses. The hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The data collected were coded and analyzed using SPSS version 20.0 for windows.
