      3.0    SUBJECT METHODOLOGY
      3.1 RESEARCH DESIGN
             This chapter deals with the methodology used in the cost of study,  the chapter comprises of  the research design, sampling procedure,  instrumentation  and procedure for data collection that is the procedure for scoring the instrument  and also the method of data analysis.
               This research is a case study one, survey design is also used. This research design is conducted to investigate the  teachers perception in the causes of student failure in English Language in Nigeria. The secondary schools in Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State in Nigeria is chosen as a case study.
                This chapter discusses the research design procedure adopted in conducting the study of data instrument. How the questionnaire is conducted, administered, scored and so on will be discussed under this chapter.
              The questionnaire is designed in a way that will provide answers to the research questions. The questionnaire is also be designed in a way that will suit the age bracket of  students in secondary school, this will help them to provide  accurate answers to the questionnaire freely without been ashamed.
      3.2   SUBJECT FOR THE STUDY
              The target population for this study is 100 students ,4 schools will be selected in Odeda local  government area of Ogun state in  Nigeria and 20  students and 5 teachers will be selected from each of the four schools . Both male and female students will be given equal opportunity or chances of been selected in the sample.
      3.3 SAMPLING PROCEDURE
                  Stratified random sampling is used in this research because the population for the research is grouped into strata with the sampling done with due respect to each stration.
                 In order to be specific in the schools chosen in the cause of research, the researcher considered the followings in her research work .
      1.    Four secondary schools are selected in Odeda Local Government area of  Ogun state in Nigera.
      2.    The schools chosen are public secondary schools.
      3.    The selected classes are JSSS2-SSS3
      3.4    INSTRUMENTS FOR DATA COLLECTION
              A questionnaire method is been used by the researcher as  research instrument.
             The main instrument used by the researcher to obtain some facts from the students and teachers about their own personal interest towards English language and the teachers perception towards the teaching and learning of  English language. The students and teachers are required to answer the questions sincerely to the best of their knowledge. The questionnaire items will help reveal the attitude of the students and teachers towards the teaching and learning of English language in secondary schools in Odeda local government area of  Ogun state in Nigeria.
               The response of teachers to this questionnaire will be linked to the teachers perception on the causes of students failure in secondary schools. Also the response of students to this questionnaire will guide the researcher on  some of the causes of students failure in English language particularly the causes that
