Chapter Three
Research Design and Methodology
3.1 Research Design
The researcher has adopted the case study method of research design. Yomere and Agbonifoh define the case study method as:
A research approach involving the intensive investigation of a specific phenomenon, event, group or an organization with a view to gaining a deeper understanding of it (14).
It is stated that the case study method is useful in gaining knowledge about the acts, activities and actions of a group as well as beliefs, assumptions and meanings which underlie particular actions or behaviours (Yomere and Agbonifoh, 232).The Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku was investigated with a view to assessing the impact of effective management through language communication.
3.2 Population of Study
Yomere and Agbonifoh see the population of a study as:
That group about whom we want to be able to draw conclusion. It is the totality of the objects or elements being studied and to which the conclusions or generalizations of our results will apply (81).
The population was comprised of the entire staff members of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku (i.e both Academic and Non-Academic). It was made up of six hundred and thirty seven (637) members of staff.
3.3 Sample and Sampling Techniques
The cluster and simple random systems were used as sampling procedures. The population was clustered into sixteen
(16) departments. From each of the departments, between twelve (12) and thirteen (13) staff members were randomly selected using the lottery method.
The research sample comprises the under listed staff members (Academic and Non-Academic):

ABSRACT - [ Total Page(s): 1 ]AbstractIt is observed in many organizations that there has been the problem of ineffective language communication. This has adversely affected the management and subsequent performance level of these organizations. Opinions expressed by several scholars revealed that effective language communication played a very important role in the efficient management of an organization. This fact laid the basic foundation for this research. This study therefore, investigated the impact of effective ... Continue reading---
