CHAPTER THREE
3.1 INTRODUCTION
This chapter contains a
descriptive methodology used in the study. The research is mainly
designed to obtain precise information concerning the current status and
drawing conclusions from what is observed. The data collected
therefore, represent teachers towards the problem under study. The
outline of this chapter will include the following:
• Research design
• Area of study
• Population of study
• Sampling and sampling techniques
• Research instrument
• Method of data collection
• Method of data analysis
3.2 RESEARCH DESIGN
The
research design used in this study is the descriptive survey. It is
designed essentially to investigate the impact of language laboratory
for effective teaching and learning of oral English in junior secondary
schools in Ilorin West local government area of Kwara state.
3.3 AREA OF STUDY
The
area covered by this study in some selected secondary schools in Ilorin
West local government of Kwara State. The study is to investigate the
impact of language laboratory for effective teaching and learning of
oral English in our junior secondary schools.
3.4 POPULATION OF STUDY
The
word population refers to a collection of specified group of human
beings. Thus; the target group of this study consist of teachers of
English language of appropriate experience in teaching English language
and are aware of the problem under study.
3.5 SAMPLING AND SAMPLING TECHNIQUES
Four
secondary schools in Ilorin West local government area of Kwara State
have been selected as sample for this research. They include
1. Mount Carmel secondary school, Ilorin
2. Bakoko Community Secondary school, Ilorin
3. Government Day Secondary School Adeta
4. Government Girls Day Secondary School, Pakata
The
four schools were randomly selected from the local government area. In
each of the secondary schools, English teachers and JSS students were
chosen as subjects. The samples of teachers selected as samples were all
English language teachers.
3.6 RESEARCH INSTRUMENT
The researcher in order to collect data for this work made use of questionnaire, interview and personal observations.
3.7 METHOD OF DATA COLLECTION
The
researcher survey intend to find out the impact of language laboratory
for effective teaching and learning of oral English in junior secondary
schools in Ilorin West local government area of Kwara state was carried
out by administrating questionnaire to teachers of oral English in the
selected secondary schools in the area. The questionnaire was collected
for analysis.
3.8 METHOD OF DATA ANALYSIS
The method of data
analysis to be used for this study is simple percentage method. This
would enable the researcher to investigate the impact of language
laboratory for effective teaching and learning of oral English in
secondary schools. English teachers were used from the four selected
schools.
