    • The aim of this study is to investigate the sources of noise and to determine the level of noise pollution affects within the area of study and how to minimize noise pollution within the area of study. The study made use of four research questions and four research objectives. The research design was the descriptive survey design.

A simple random sampling method was employed to get 200 respondents. Questionnaire was retrieved from the respondents which was used for computing the data analysis. Simple percentage was used to analyze the data while Chi Square Statistics with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to test the hypotheses. The findings revealed among others that the main source of noise pollution in the study area is automobiles. The automobile that causes noise pollution includes ;  passenger cars, cargo cars and cars for the construction of roads and buildings.

The findings also revealed that  Religious activities, noise from loud speaker noise from the neighborhood are the source of noise pollution within Rumuokoro in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State.  Based on the findings, the study recommends among others that there is a need for generation of noise maps in Rumuokoro in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State so as to measure both spatial and temporal distribution of noise levels in the city. The noise maps will provide vital information to city authorities, public works and the general public with information necessary to control noise pollution in the area

It is more commonly used for the special branch of that science architectural acoustics that deals with the construction of enclosed area so as to enhance the hearing of speech or music. For the treatment of acoustics as a branch of the pure science of physics, the acoustics of buildings was an undeveloped aspect of the study of noise until comparatively recent ...
