      1. What is the awareness level of citizens towards Estate Management profession in Anambra state?
      2. What is the perception of citizens on professional Estate Managers as against unqualified persons?
      3. What are the possible ways of increasing the level of awareness of citizens to the profession of Estate Management in Anambra State?
      4.  What are the possible ways of changing the negative perception of citizens to the profession of Estate Management in Anambra state?

       

      ​​​​​​​1.5               STATEMENT OF HYPOTHESES

      Ho1: The majority of citizens of Anambra state are not aware of the Estate Management profession.

      Ho2: The majority of citizens do not prefer the services of Estate Surveyors and Valuers.

       

      ​​​​​​​1.6               SIGNIFICANCE OF STUDY

      This study is intended to serve as a reference point to the present and future generation of citizens and Estate Surveyors and Valuers so as to bring the two parties to an equilibrium point. It can as well be used for academic purposes as bedrock for further research on citizens and Estate Management professionals’ relationship.

       

      ​​​​​​​1.7               SCOPE OF STUDY

      The scope of this study is limited to the views and perception of citizens on the profession of Estate Management, precisely property management and agency functions and by extension, the importance of Estate Management professionals to the economy in active rendering of their services.​​​​​​​

       

      1.8              LIMITATION OF STUDY

      The major challenges encountered during the course of carrying out this work includes the following; financial challenge which is as a result of the poor state of the country’s economy, problem of poor responses from respondents and failure to return some of the issued questionnaires.

      In addition, not all the required information sought for were supplied by the respondent

       

      ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​1.9              STUDY AREA

      The study area, Anambra State of is one of the 36 states of Nigeria. Located in the South-Eastern parts of the Country, it is situated between Latitudes 5° 32’ and 6°45’ N and Longitude 6°43 ’ and 7° 22 ’E respectively. With an estimated land area of 4,865sqkm or 486,500ha, the State is varied in terms of topography, population distribution and regional development. Anambra is the eighth most populated state in the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the second most densely populated state in Nigeria after Lagos State. With an annual population growth rate of 2.21 percent per annum, Anambra State has over 60% of its people living in urban areas making it one of the most urbanized places in Nigeria, thereby making it a very reasonable choice as a study area.

      The major urban centres’ of Anambra state are Onitsha including Okpoko, Nnewi, and Awka. Awka, by becoming the state capital is, is the fastest growing urbanized city in Anambra state. All this culminates to the choice of Awka as the case study for this research work.
