3.6 METHOD OF DATA ANALYSIS
Tabular and statistical method is used in analysis, Interpretation and presentation of data. The responses for each relevant question in the questionnaire are represented in tables and the statistical results used to compare the various answer. The data collected were analysed using the mean, percentage and chi-square was used to test the hypothesis
Chi-square technique was used in testing the hypothesis because the researcher is interested in analysing information from citizens residing in Awka metropolis in Anambra state with regards to their perception and awareness of Estate management profession. This is because chi-square can be used to test the relationship between two variables, and the variables in this work are the people and Estate Management profession. Chi square will then help to test the level of awareness and perception of the people towards the profession.
Nominal values were assigned to different scaling items as follows:
SA = Strongly Agree = 5points
A = Agree = 4points
UD = Undecided = 3 points
D = Disagree = 2 points
SD = Strongly Disagree = 1 points
The cut – off point was determined by summing the nominal value and dividing by the total number of the scaling items thus:
Therefore items with mean of 3.0 and above are regarded as accepted while items with less than 3.0 are regarded as unaccepted or rejected.
The formula for chi-square which was used in the test of hypothesis is shown below:
