The term “population” as used in research refers to the entire number, group objects and elements in which the researcher interested. However, the entire population for this study are all geography students in senior secondary schools and geography teachers in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.
      Population, Sample and Sampling Techniques
Although the targeted population for the study comprises all secondary school students and teachers in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State as it was stipulated under population, but because of limited time and resources and due to the fact that there are similarities in the problems which secondary schools are facing in terms of instructional materials and in order to avoid over and under representation in selecting the sample, the stratified random sampling technique was used to select four secondary schools in Ilorin West Local Government Area.  Therefore, the sampling population comprised of 32 students and 8 teachers in the selected senior secondary schools.   A total of 40 respondents were selected to represent the entire population of the study.
      The selected secondary schools are:
      1.    Ilorin Grammar School, Ilorin
      2.    Government Day Secondary School, Ilorin
      3.    Queen Elizabeth School, Ilorin
      4.    Ansar-Ur-deen Secondary School, Taiwo Ilorin
      Research Instrument
Instrument in research simply means the tools employed in gathering information, while instrumentation is the process of collecting data.    However, as the research design was a descriptive survey method, the instrument adopted in conducting the research work comprises of an oral interview and a structured questionnaire tagged “Influence of Instructional Materials on Students Academic Performance in Geography”, (IIMSAPG)
The instrument consists of two sections, section a seeks to elicit background information of the respondents such as respondent’s name of school sex, age, educational qualification, years of working experience (where applicable ) etc. section B consists of question items relating to the subject matter of the study to be answered by the respondents.
