Discussion of Findings
The hypothesis one which states that “there is no significant difference in the performance of the students taught with instructional materials and those though without instructional materials was rejected. This simply indicated that, those students taught with instructional materials performed better than those taught without instructional materials. This reveals the impact of instructional materials on the students academic performance, it shows that with instructional materials, students perform better.
The hypothesis two which also states that “there is no significant difference between the performance of male and female students taught with instructional materials†was accepted. This is vividly shows that there is no gender difference in academic performance when instructional materials are well utilized in teaching geography.
The hypothesis three states that “there is no significant relationship between the availability of text books and students performance in geography†this hypothesis base on the findings was rejected, this shows that there is significant relationship between the availability of textbooks and students performance in geography. It shows that without textbooks, students knowledge will be narrow and it will affect their performance; textbooks enable students to read wider and broaden their knowledge, this improve the students performance in geography.
Finally, the hypothesis four which states that there is no significant relationship between the instructional materials and students academic performance in geography was rejected. Thus it reveals that there is significant relationship between the instructional materials and students academic performance in geography. It show that without the use of instructional materials in teaching geography students performance will be negatively affected which means the instructional materials and students academic performance and cordially related.
In general, the findings revealed that instructional material has great impact on students academic performance, it improve student’s level of understanding and assimilation. It makes what taught, permanent in the memory because chins adage says “what I hear I forget, what I see I remember and what I do I understand.
