CHAPTER THREE
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research Design
This chapter deals with the method that would be employed in the conduct of this study. The methodology will be discussed under the following sub headings;
(a) Research Design
(b) population, Sample and Sampling Techniques
(c) Instrumentation
(d) Procedure for Data Collection and Data Analysis Techniques.
Research Type
This study is a descriptive research of survey type, Olayiwola {2007} stated that descriptive research is concered with the collection and analysis of data for the purpose of describing, evaluating or comparing current event prevailing practices, event or occurrences “A descriptive research type is appropriate because it is undertaken in order to ascertain and be able to describe the characteristic of the variable of interest in the study.
Population, Sample and Sampling Techniques.
The population for this study is all the geography students in Kajola Local Government Area while the target population would be hundred (100) geography students which also represent the study sample stratified random techniques would be employed to select five (5) secondary school and twenty (20) studentfrom each of the schools which a total of 100 students. The schools are;
1. A.D.S Grammar school, Okeho
2. Iwa Community Grammar School, Ayetoro –Oke
3. Baptist Grammar School, Ilero
4. Isemi-ile Grammar Schoo, Isemi-Ile
5. Ilua Community Grammar School, Ilua
Instrumentation
The main research instrument of this study was a structured questionnaire. This questionnaire was prepared by the researcher with the assistance of the supervisor.
The questionnaire was structured to appraise the effect of teachers qualification on the secondary school students performance in geography in external examination and was divided into two sections.
Section A: was aimed at collecting information on the personal data of the students (respondents). Section B: focused on the appraisal of the effect of teachers qualification on the secondary school students performance in geography in external examination.
The questionnaire was rated according to the modified likert format scale type, strongly Agree (SA) attracts four marks, Agree (A) attracts three marks, Disagree (D) attracts two marks and strongly disagree (SD) attracts one mark. This enables the participants to indicate the extent of agreement or disagreement with the statement supply.
