    • Ubong (2007) highlighted some of the benefit of hostel accommodation which include, but are not limited to the following:
      (1)    Facilitate reading/learning: At any level of education (primary, secondary, college of education, university including postgraduate work). Staying in the hall of residence or hostel does enhance the desire to read.
      (2)    Co-curriculum activities: Students in hostels have a greater opportunity of participating in sports, games, clubs, and social activities that are expected to make them more rounded individual and citizens than those living off campus who may find themselves forced into domestic activities once they are at home.
      (3)    Security: Students are more secured on campus than off campus in spites of menace of cult activities in tertiary educational institution in Nigeria. This is because institutions maintain security personnel on campus and do monitor the activities of students. Some private Colleges of Education are known to lock their gates early and insist on students obtaining exit permission before they travel home.
      (4)   Moral Training: Persons from tertiary educational institutions are graduated based on satisfactory performance in character and in learning. Moral training includes individual behaviour in group situation as in hostel.
      (5)    Private Relationship: Private relations in hostels rooms could blossom into live time positive relationship that would be beneficial to both parties. The benefits show the importance of hostels accommodation in any higher institutions which will make the students to behave in a desirable manner.
Kamla-Raj (2005) stated that welfare problems brought about students unrest in Nigeria Colleges of Education. Inadequate hostel accommodation, unsatisfactory supply of food and catering services, overcrowded lecture halls and hostels, lack of financial aid and poor sanitary conditions tend to make students campus life and experience a very traumatic one.
Influence of Student  Support Services on Students’ Academic Performance
Agbenta (1982) opined that it is very important to introduce guidance and counselling services in the school system in order that intending entrants and those on courses may make rational choices and behave rationally. This study shows the importance of guidance and counselling as it has direct bearing on the academic performance of the students. Absence of counsellors in the higher institutions foster students poor academic performance and the presence ofcounsellors will no doubt  encourage good academic performance of the students in the institutions of higher learning.
Health is wealth. A healthy man is a wealthy man. Health services are important aspect of students support service. Health services are an essential aspect of learning in any educational institution. Health services provide medical treatment to students whenever they have problem concerning their health. Inadequacy of welfare services resulted into poor feeding, poor sanitary conditions. Lack of electricity, shortage of water and increase in prices of food sold to the students and management restrictions of social activities. The inability of the management to provide good welfare services to the students often leads to students anti-social behaviours.
