Marital Expectations Of Young Females
[A CASE STUDY OF OKE-ERO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF KWARA STATE, NIGERIA] -

Table 2 presents mean and rank order of young female marriage expectations. The table shows that 27 out of the 30 items on marital expectations have mean scores that are above the benchmark average mean value of 2.50. However, items 5, 1, 15, 10, 6 and 14 with mean values of 3.51, 3.49, 3.43, 3.43, 3.42 and 3.41 preceded others and were ranked from 1 to 5 respectively. The items indicated “that my marriage should be a lifelong relationshipâ€, “to get married when I am an adultâ€, “to support my family financiallyâ€, “to be submissive to my spouseâ€, “that my marriage should be fulfilling and satisfying even when raising childrenâ€, and “to earn income to improve marital life†as marital expectations. It can therefore be inferred that marital expectations of young females in Oke-Ero LGA involves having a lifelong relationship, getting married when they are adult, couple’s supporting family financially, being submissive to their spouses, that their marriage should be fulfilling and satisfying even when raising children and to earn income in order to improve their marital life.
