Table below shows the classification of hard drugs as giving by the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
The above classification of hard drug as given by the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). The classification of drugs mentioned above defined individually by the same honey as follow:
Narcotic: This refers to drugs which have the tendency of reducing pain, anger, thirst and sexual urges. It is also a form of drugs which relieve pain and at the same time induce sleep in the user. Examples of these are shown in the table above.
Stimulants: These are drugs which stimulate the body system, they act mostly by increasing the functional activities and promote individual wellbeing. Examples are in the table shown above.
Cannabis: These are refers to those drugs which have the power of producing distortion of thought and create space sensations, it is a plant that grows wild and cultivated in temperate, tropical and arid area. It is cultivated abundantly in south west and some parts of south – eastern states of Nigeria. It acts as sedative but in large amounts can cause hallucinations. Marijuana or India hemp is the main example of cannabis.
There are some other classes of hard drugs, but for the purpose of this study, the research will be limited to those given by the agency, since the agency is seen as the main source of information on drug issue in the country.
