-
Table 2 shows the Means and Rank orders of influence of drug abuse on students’ academic performance. From the table, Item 1 (“Drug abuse can lead to poor concentration in the classâ€) ranked first (1st) with a mean score of 3.285. Item 13 (“Drug abuse can lead to frequent fatigueâ€) ranked 2nd with a mean score of 3.100, while item 15th (“Drug abuse can lead to poor spelling habitâ€) and Item 20 (“Drug abuse can lead to not being able to understand examination questionsâ€) ranked 19th with mean score of 2.805 respectively.
Hypotheses Testing:
The six null hypotheses formulated in this study were tested using t-test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) statistical methods.
Hypothesis 1: There is no significant difference between drug abuse and student’s academic performance on the basis of gender.
* Significant, p < 0.05.
The result on Table 3 indicates that in absolute terms, the calculated t – values of – 2.02 is greater than the critical t- value of 1.96. Therefore, hypothesis one which states that there is no significant difference between drug abuse and students’ academic performance based on gender is rejected and the alternative hypothesis upheld.
