      RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
      Introduction
          This chapter presents information on the procedure and methods employed in carrying out of research work. The chapter will be discussed under the following sub-headings.
      Research Design;
      Population of the Study;
      Sample and sampling Techniques;
      Research Instrument,
      Validity of the Instrument;
      Reliability of the Instrument;
      Administration of the instrument and;
      Method of Data Analysis.
      Research Design
          The study was a descriptive survey that employed an ex-post-facto experimental design that involved the determination and description of the teacher training and development programmers on academic performance of students in mathematics in Ilorin west Local west Local Government Area of kwara State. It investigate the facts as they involve teachers training and development programme effect the teachers effectiveness on students academic performance in mathematics.
          The study however adopt experimental design model in other to examine the differences in students performance under the experimental and control groups.
      Population of study
      The study was targeted at all teachers and students in public secondary schools in Iloin West local Government Area of Kwara State. Specifically all mathematics teachers would be involved.
      Sample and Sampling Techniques
      A sample of twenty (20) teachers and one involved(100) students were used for the study, at the ti9me of the study by stratified random sampling technique .The teacher and student were drawn from ten(10)public schools secondary schools in the local Area .stratification ensured an even distribution of subjects used in the study
      The selected students were further divided into two groups (Experimental and Control groups) 50 in each of the following groups handled by teachers who under goes further training and Development programs and the other by teacher with ordinary qualification.
      Research Instrument
      The researcher made use of test (Teachers made test) administered on the selected students in order to investigate the influence of teachers training and Development programme on the “Mathematics Achievement Survey Test”(MAST). Also a proforma would be designed to collect the performance of each student in the two groups (Experimental and Controls).
      Also a questionnaire was designed to elicit relevant responses from the selected teachers to test the influence of training and development programme on their teaching effectiveness. The instruments consist of two sections (A and B).Section A Seek of personal information of respondents such as sex, Age, Qualification and experience. While section B contains structured question items, guided with 4 likert rating scale of strongly agree (SA) Agreed (A), disagreed (D) and strongly Disagreed (SD). The draft of the two instruments i.e the test and questionnaire are attached as appendixes at the end of this project report.
      Validity of the Instrument
      The instrument would be validated through some experts in test and measurement, the content of the test instrument would be subject to export analysis who in turn made necessary corrections and amendment. The after the instrument would be shown to the project supervisor for further corrections and subjections to ensure both face and content validity of the instrument.
      Reliability of the Instrument
      The reliability of the instrument used for the study was established by the use of test re-test method. Twenty copies of the instrument were administered on a sample respondents who were not part of the final administration as a pilot test twice within an interval of two weeks.
      The two scores obtained were correlated using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Statistics and a reliability coefficient of 0.74 was obtain which was considered high enough to make the instrument reliable.
