CHAPTER THREE
RESEARCH METHOD
This chapter is concerned with the method and procedures that were used to conduct the study. Specifically, it described the following:
• Research Design
• Area of the Study
• Population of the Study
• Sample and Sampling Technique
• Instrument for Data Collection
• Validation of Instrument
• Reliability of Instrument
• Method of Data Collection
• Experimental Procedure
• Control of Extraneous Variables
• Method of Data Analysis
Research Design
The design for this present study was quasi- experimental. The quasi-experimental design is that which offers less-well and less-rigorous control compared to the true experimental design (Ali, 1996). Three groups were used for the study; two experimental groups and one control group. One experimental group tagged experimental group I was exposed to the cognitive restructuring technique, the other tagged experimental group II to shaping technique, while the control group was not exposed to any treatment.
Key:
C = Control
E1 = Experimental group I – Cognitive restructuring
E2 = Experimental group II – Shaping
O1 = Pretest measures
O2 = Posttest measure
Instrument = Observation guide
Treatment Group = Experimental Groups I & II

ABSRACT - [ Total Page(s): 1 ]ABSTRACT The study was on the effect of cognitive restructuring and shaping techniques in reducing lateness among secondary school students. The study was carried out in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State using quasi-experimental design. Two hundred and sixty-five (265) latecomers made up the population of the study, while ninety (90) latecomers made up the sample. An observation guide designed by the researcher was used for data collection. Three research questions were answered using ... Continue reading---
