It is viewed as a violation of a formal or informal rule including serious criminal acts or flagrant disregard for conventional standards of approved behaviour, as well as more private and momentary oppositional and hurt acts. The readiness or willingness of an individual to demonstrate decent and decorous conduct, respect for authority, high sense of responsibility, love for orderlies, eagerness to discharge duties with promptitude and efficiency makes an individual a ‘normal person’, when an individual fails to discharge these characteristics, unruly behaviour is said to have occurred.
However, unruly behaviour can be explained to mean a shift away from age long appropriate behaviour which significantly affects individual growth and societal development. That is any behaviour tagged unruly runs contrary to generally accepted pattern of behaviour for the age and environment of the individual and this behaviour negatively affects him and other persons around (Ughamadu,&Enueme,2002).
1.2 Statement Of the problem
The unruly behaviour in schools has persisted over the years. These acts have either been carried out individually by the students or as a group which result to rioting or revolts. There is no doubt that students unruly behaviour generally militate against effective teaching and learning and production of useful acceptable members of the society. It is therefore, observed that some parents appear to have denied their parental roles or responsibilities towards their children. If the teachers are frustrated and lack motivation in themselves, they are not likely to motivate others to learn or occupy their time in productive education. The Government contributes to unruly behaviour by not providing adequate facilities /equipment in the school. Community /society influence contributes to unruly behaviour among secondary school students due to economic recession. Peer-group influence contributes to unruly behaviour among students in the form of uncomfortable environment where the students are scared of their parents.
