      METHODOLOGY
      Introduction
This chapter deals with the procedure adopted in carrying out the study. It consist of research design, sample and sampling techniques instrumentation, validity of the instrument, reliability of the instrument, administration of research instrument and method of data analysis.
      Research Design
The research design adopted for the study is the descriptive survey. Descriptive survey method entails the systematic collection of data from a sample of the population through personal interaction which gives opportunity of equal representation of the sample (Adegboye 1994).
      Sample and Sampling Procedure
The target population for the study consists of all secondary school students in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State. Two hundred (200) respondents will be selected from the population using the simple random sampling technique. Simple random technique is a sampling method which gives every member of the target population an equal chance of being selected.
Thus, the researcher randomly selected ten (10) secondary schools in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State out of which twenty (20) respondents were randomly selected from each of the ten (10) selected secondary schools.
      Instrumentation
The instrument that was used for the study is a questionnaire designed by the researcher for the purpose of eliciting information from the respondents. The instrument comprised two section, A and B, section A contains information on the personal data of the respondents while section B contains items on the causes of premarital sex which the respondents responded to according to their views towards those items using a four point Liert scales Strongly Agreed (SA), Agreed (A), Disagreed (D) Strongly Disagreed (SD). The weighting goes thus:
      Strongly Agree (SA)         4
      Agreed        (A)        3
      Disagreed        (D)        2
      Strongly Disagreed (SD)    1
      Validity of the Instrument
Validity of an instrument is how able the instrument measures what is supposed to measure. To confirm the validity of the instrument that would be used for this test, the instrument was given to some of the departmental lecturers of the counsellor education. Further corrections and restructuring was made by my supervisor before the final print out.
      Reliability of the Instrument
Reliability of an instrument is the consistency of an instrument. We can also confirm the reliability of the instrument by adopting split half method. The questionnaire was distributed to randomly selected twenty (20) respondents respond to.
The items were administered twice to the same set of respondents in a period of four weeks and then the two results were scored using (PPMCCF) Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient Formular.
      Administration of the Instrument
The questionnaires were administered personally by the researcher and three research assistants to the respondents (students). The research assistants were trained by the researcher on the procedure of administration and collection. At the point of administration, each item on the questionnaire would be explained one after the other to the respondents and later give enough time to respond o without any interference. The collection was also done accordingly as soon as the questionnaire was responded to.
      Method of Data Analysis
Frequency counts and simple percentage will be used to analyze the respondents’ personal data. The t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) statistical method will be used to test the null hypotheses which were formulated in the study. All hypotheses will be tested at 0.05 alpha level of significance.
